Lefra Productions is well-known by now for its hilarious farces. This year's brand new farce is Daa’ Gaat die Bruid!, Frans Swart’s Afrikaans adaptation of Ray Cooney and John Chapman’s There Goes the Bride. It is one of their most successful shows yet on London's West End. Daa’ Gaat die Bruid! is an extremely funny play about a young girl's forthcoming marriage and attitudes about premarital sex. Excerpts from the London reviews and the critics’ reaction can best describe this farce: “a fiendishly clever farce that gets madder and funnier as it goes along… Has pace, precision and wit”, was the verdict in the London Daily Mirror. According to the BBC, it is “brilliantly written”. Daa’ Gaat die Bruid! features top actors like Ana van Achterbergh, Cobus Venter, Debrè Rossouw, Edrien Erasmus, Gert van Tonder, Lieb Bester, Marga van Rooy and Phillru van Achterbergh. In Daa’ Gaat die Bruid!, it's the morning of Judy's wedding and her harried ad agency executive father Malan Ackerman, gets banged on the head. He awakes to find himself in the company of Polly Playtex, a 1920’s Flapper girl straight out of his current advertising campaign. It soon becomes all too clear that no-one else can see or hear her, and when another bump on the head transports Timothy back to 1926, the carefully planned wedding preparations disintegrate into chaos as friends and family attempt to lead Malan back to reality and his daughter down the aisle before the newly arrived in-laws' abandon the wedding.... The whole family gets caught up in the confusion as Malan carries on with his new girlfriend.
In Groet die Grotheld we meet Gert Struwig, played by Cobus Venter. Gert is a real “caveman”. Definitely not a metroman. His live revolves around rugby and everything is planned around it: family, braais, sex, church, everything. His heroes are all rugby players. His son is named after his favourite rugby player. Gert’s whole existence IS rugby! A typical South African male. But then life happens, and Gert’ life is changed dramatically with the question: “Am I a cave hero?” Groet die Grotheld is pure comedy, told with a tear or two.
In a retirement village two world-renowned entertainers are relishing memories of the good times they had in days gone by. It’s show time at Huis Silwerjare and everyone is set to get the stage ready. Firstly there is Arina de Witt (Aria Von Waltzleben, alias Fanny Galore), born at Ariamsvlei, a star from the sixties in Las Vegas and "soul mate" of Maria Callas and Edith Piaf. Then there is Hennie Smit (Egbertus Wolmarans) hailing from the Swartland, teacher at Ariamsvlei, famous entertainment star and actor who has been in love with Aria all these years. The Huis Silwerjare concert cannot take place without Aria and Egbertus. In this wonderful production Hennie Smit and Arina de Witt combine forces to present As Drome Vlerke Kry.
Timothy Kieswetter knows the Bible and he knows a thing or two about sex. He founded Gesonde Seks with his wife, a programme that helps couples insert the passion back into their marriage. In the theatre production Die Stripshow, Timothy examines sexual taboos in a hilarious way like never before.
